Aerodynamics test laboratory

Article: Aerodynamics test laboratory

Driving resistance, loads on noise barriers, movable objects on the track, etc.

As experts in the field of aerodynamic testing technology, we offer

  • Test results formally recognised by the licensing authorities
  • Holistic coordination of the measurement programme during active railway operation
  • Deployment of tried-and-tested railway measuring equipment

Accredited test procedures

  • We can offer you accredited test procedures for aerodynamic analyses in rail transport in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
  • The accreditation encompasses all relevant test and measurement quantities, e.g. in accordance with TSI regulations and pursuant to EN 14067. See the appendix for the accreditation certificate.
  • DB Systemtechnik is QMS certified to the ISO 9001 standard.

The detailed and latest list of activities/test procedures in the flexible scope of accreditation in the testing laboratory "Aerodynamics test" can be found in this PDF:

Our tests and test quantities

Details:

Measurements for vehicles

  • Aerodynamic loads for passing rail traffic in the open and in a tunnel, e.g. bow wave, flow loads, pressure signature in tunnel
  • Special topics such as driving resistance, undercarriage aerodynamics, pantograph aerodynamics, specific design specification verifications

Measurements for infrastructure components

  • Response of movable and immovable objects as a reaction to aerodynamic loads from passing rail vehicles, e.g. the reaction of noise barriers, platform canopies, signalling installations, switch cabinets, fixed track work barriers, movable items on platforms (luggage trolleys) and bridge inspection vehicles
  • Special topics such as flying ballast

Tunnel and underground stations

  • Measurements for commissioning, e.g. amplification of entry pressure waves (sonic boom) and pressure loads with reactions on emergency exit doors, coping slabs, utility rooms or equipment cabinets
  • Pressure loads when two trains meet each other under controlled conditions
  • Ventilation of tunnel constructions
  • Comfort considerations with respect to flow and ventilation conditions and meteorological constraints (temperature, humidity, ambient pressure)
