    As the successor to the Central Bundesbahn Offices (Bundesbahn-Zentralämter), DB Systemtechnik GmbH looks back on a long engineering tradition. The primary responsibility of these former technology centres of Deutsche Reichsbahn and Deutsche Bundesbahn was to develop and test railway vehicles.

    Today, DB Systemtechnik is Europe's leading competence centre for railway technology. The company offers its engineering and testing services to the entire railway sector, worldwide.

    1945-1992

    The functions of the former Central Reichsbahn Office (Reichsbahnzentralamt) in Berlin are moved to the new Central Bundesbahn Offices (Bundesbahnzentralamt), initially in Göttingen and later, from 1950 onwards, in Minden and Munich.

    1.6.1992Deutsche Bundesbahn creates the Research and Development Board Division, comprising the Central Bundesbahn Offices and a testing station.
    20.4.1993Deutsche Bundesbahn creates a new Board Division by the name of "Research and Technology" and bases it in Minden and Munich.
    1.1.1994German Rail Reform and establishment of Deutsche Bahn AG, a new rail company governed by private law and owned by the Federal Government.
    1994The Central Bundesbahn Offices are reorganised as a research and technology centre with testing centres in Minden, Munich, Kirchmöser and Berlin.
    30.10.1995New Munich-Freimann building: A new administrative building is constructed on Völckerstrasse, Munich, on the site of the Munich Freimann testing station.
    1.4.1997The Deutsche Bahn Research and Technology Centre is established.
    1.1.2002

    The Research and Technology Centre is renamed DB Systemtechnik.

    1.9.2011DB Systemtechnik is spun off to form a separate limited liability company.
    1.1.2012Takeover of two British companies – ESG Rail and RAL – by DB Schenker UK
    1.1.2013

    Office in Paris is opened.

    Apr. 2013DB Systemtechnik becomes a rail company in its own right and can perform test runs on its own.

    Okt. 2020

    		Office in Shanghai is opened.

    Aug. 2021

    		Office in Poland is opened.
