New technical controlling contract for DB Systemtechnik

Article: New technical controlling contract for DB Systemtechnik

(Minden, 8 February 2022) DB Systemtechnik is supporting the client transport associations of Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) and Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe (NWL) in procuring 63 new battery electric multiple units (BEMU) from the Spanish vehicle manufacturer CAF. Our experts will be responsible for technical controlling as well as the inspections of the vehicles during construction and their acceptance.

The technical controlling is divided into the following three phases:

  • Construction phase: Ensuring the appropriate design of the vehicles in line with actual needs and requirements as well as compliance with the relevant regulations (participation in design reviews)
  • Production phase: Ensuring high production quality (production supervision on site)
  • Acceptance phase: Checking and verification of the documentation, the absence of defects and the functional capability of the trains and of the vehicle characteristics formally agreed on (vehicle acceptance)

As construction starts, DB Systemtechnik project staff will already be involved in the technical design of the vehicles. During the construction phase, the experts from the Engineering department of DB Systemtechnik will also be on site and will accompany the project through to the delivery and acceptance of all vehicles.

Responsible for maintenance over the entire life cycle

The special thing about this project is that the vehicle manufacturer CAF will not only produce and supply the trains, but will also be responsible for their maintenance and availability over their entire life cycle of around 30 years.

A focal point of DB Systemtechnik's project management work will therefore be on designing the vehicle with the aim of achieving high availability.
