After completing a flawless audit, the Fire Protection Inspection Unit has now received its DAkkS accreditation — giving it the authority to certify fire-critical rail components with an officially recognised seal of quality.

The Fire Protection Inspection Unit successfully passed the DAkkS audit last November with no technical findings — and the long-awaited certificate has now arrived.

“We’re delighted to finally display the accreditation seal on our inspection reports. It’s a clear validation of the quality we deliver,” says Head of Inspection, Frank Lüders.

With the accreditation in place, inspections of rail components in line with standards DIN EN 45545-1 and DIN EN 45545-2 can now be issued as fully certified.

In recent years, the team has assessed a wide range of supplier components for fire safety — from voltage converters, thermal fans and monitors to more complex systems such as de-icing equipment and mobile-communication measurement units. “Our focus is always on the fire behaviour of the materials used. That makes this accreditation the perfect complement to our already certified fire-testing laboratory,” Lüders adds.

Many of the components evaluated for fire protection are already in service across DB’s vehicle fleet.
