    Cross-border teamwork: the EURO 9000 locomotive from Stadler receives homologation for operation in Italy at the end of December 2025. DB Systemtechnik provides support with a test campaign.

    The EURO 9000 sets new standards in European freight transport: with its output of 9 megawatts, it not only impresses with its technology, but also with its flexible deployment options in different countries.

    Approved 

    Following the already completed approvals in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, Italy is now officially part of the operational area of this innovative locomotive. At the end of December2025, ANSFISA, the authorizing entity, granted the EURO 9000 approval for operation in Italy. 

    DB Systemtechniktest campaign 

    Since 2021, DB Systemtechnik's test teams have been deployed for EURO 9000 test and homologation runs. DB Systemtechnik also took over the coordination of the test campaign for Stadler´s strong team in Valencia, together with dedicated partners such as DB Cargo Italia and RINA. 

    The challenges were manifold: from tests on electromagnetic compatibility, to the interaction between pantograph and overhead line, to ESC tests (compatibility of the ETCS on-board unit with the ETCS trackside equipment), DB Systemtechnik organized and led the test program. 

    This test campaign was intensive and successful. The test program, including on the route between Bologna and Verona, was completed in just two months.

    With the Italian approval, the EURO 9000 is now optimally equipped for its use in European freight transport, e.g. for the Rhine-Alpine Main Line - as an efficient "powerhouse" - from Rotterdam to Genoa.
