Article: Technical Article: Automation in Rail Transport? Best Achieved with E2E - Functional Safety in OT&IT
With E2E - Functional Safety in OT&IT, safety-relevant data from vehicles and infrastructure can be processed consistently and reliably throughout the entire lifecycle.
The continuous processing of function cycles, operating times and position data across the entire process chain is a key measure for increasing efficiency and safety in railway operations. Until now, achieving this has often required a wide range of heterogeneous processes and technologies, making it more difficult to ensure regulatory compliance and long-term planning security.
To address these challenges, norm-compliant development processes, standardised methodologies and medium- to long-term planning reliability must be considered.
The concept of E2E - Functional Safety in OT&IT makes it possible to secure relevant data throughout the entire process, from data acquisition and protection through validation and monitoring. This approach has the potential to combine process steps that are currently often fragmented into a single, integrated framework.
DB Systemtechnik and DB Systel are jointly investigating the practical application of this approach by considering Operational Technology (OT) and cloud technologies together.
